Happy New Year!! Every year I set personal goals and expectations but since I am an “adult” now… LOL… I felt like setting career goals was a lot more appropriate.
I shared a couple months ago what my overall career goals were or rather long term goals. Since I am such a planner, I love to take time to plan out small goals that will eventually get me to my big goals! So here are my 2019 career goals:)
- Find an opportunity to lead a project! This is a big one for me since I have such a desire to lead. In consulting there are always new projects popping up so getting to take the lead on one is a big goal for me this year.
- Earn 2 more certifications on the system I am trained on! In technology things are always changing quickly and I want to be certified in 2 more areas. Hopefully these certifications will help me advance my career in the long run.
- Find my feet! I am always really hesitant when I start something new and question/overthink every move I make. It takes me a while to figure out my place and how I can contribute with the skills I have. But once I find my feet in my role, I tend to hit the ground running.
- Take every opportunity I can find! This is an ongoing goal for me and one I worked a lot on during 2018. I never ever want to limit myself or put myself in a corner. This means not saying no to things because I am scared or worried I won’t excel. This year I will continue to look for every opportunity I can.
- Create something on my own! What do I mean by this? In our jobs we are faced with day to day tasks that have to be complete. But that takes away from our time in creating something that could help reach project goals. I want to spend extra time diving into the data I see every day and create something from it.
The company I consult for is great at pushing us to set goals every year and reach them. In consulting, you go from project to project reaching project goals but don’t always get to focus on personal career goals. They have us set priorities and review them throughout the year.
Do you lay out career goals or objectives?? What’s your biggest goal this year?
