Jeremy and I love to travel together and last year we randomly started this habit of watching HGTV! It has become our little thing we do when we wake up in the morning at an Airbnb or hotel. As many of you might know, on HGTV there is a show called “Tiny House Hunters” and it gives you an inside look at purchasing one. We always joked that I could never staying one because of how much stuff I bring with me when traveling!!
Fast forward to about 2 months ago when Jeremy and I decided to spend Memorial Weekend in Austin again. I was busy planning my England trip so I put him in charge of planning Austin… not sure why I thought that would be a good idea haha. Anyway he said he booked the airbnb and was sending me the details. I honestly laughed when I saw the tiny house because I thought he was kidding!! Turns out he wasn’t and here are our thoughts from staying in a tiny house together for a weekend:)
Her Thoughts:
I am an over packer and tend to have things everywhere when I travel so this was a bit of a challenge for me but there was a ton of storage space! I just had to remember to pack up all my things into my suitcase so I could store it after getting ready.
The bathroom was way to small for me to handle unfortunately! I felt very closed in and got flustered because there was no room to move around when washing my hair. I was really thankful I had just cut most of my hair off before the trip because there was no way I could have washed long hair in the shower. But I only ended up showering twice while being there so it honestly wasn’t terrible. Also this bathroom did not have a sink so you had to use the kitchen which felt awkward and weird for me.
Jeremy is about 6’4 so both of us being in the kitchen was a struggle but lucky for me Jeremy likes to do most of the cooking so I just sat in the living room while he was in there.
The living room and bed were spacious and I didn’t have any problems with those at all! Overall for me it was not bad at all!! I was expecting way worse but we barely spent much time in it because we were off exploring.
His Thoughts:
Jeremy here! I thought it was a fun experience! Not something that I could live in for a long period of time. The shower was a big struggle because of how tall I am and there was no space in the bathroom at all. Which made things challenging.
I would have to crawl on my hands and knees when I got to the lofted area where the bed was. I didn’t mind it for the 2 nights we were there but not something I could do for more than that.
I would love to build one, but it would be more like an XL tiny house (with a much larger shower than just a wine barrel). Glad I experienced it, but I’m fine with it being a once in a life time experience!
Overall this was a fun little experience for us and we love that we got to share it with y’all:) If you want to see the exact Tiny House we stayed at in Austin, it is linked right HERE. The couple was ever so sweet and they built the house themselves. It has also been on HGTV twice!!
