Summer Ready: Self Tanner

Today kicks off the start of a new series on the blog from now until Summer! It is called “Summer Ready”, where I will share all things I am doing to get ready for Summer:) I am going to be discussing places to shop for bathing suits, how I am getting in shape for swimsuit season, and beauty products I will be trying out! The first one that we will be starting with is Self-Tanner.

Self-Tanner is my absolutely saving grace! This girl is very very pale and throwing those shorts and tees on can get really intimidating especially if I have photo shoots to do. I love to be bronze and always have. In high school I would always go lay in the tanning beds (I cringe thinking back on how bad that was for me) but during college it go super expensive and I didn’t want to damage my skin anymore. But throughout college I would always get spray tans (My spray tan lady was $10 and she did an incredible job!) but being in Dallas it can get super super expensive.

I say all that because I have been trying to find that perfectly natural bronze with Self-Tanner. The past couple years I have been using Jergen’s but recently switched to St. Topiz and now I have been trying the St. Moriz. So below is a full review of each product (with pricing taken into consideration) and I reveal which one I think is the winner:)

St Tropez Mit ($6) // St Topiz Self Tanner– Full Size ($42), Medium ($32), Small ($18)

First up is St. Tropez, which is a self tanner every blogger raves about! If I am being really honest, I would buy this over anything else if it wasn’t for the price!

How I apply:  I normally shower at night and then apply it all over before going to bed. I take the St. Tropez mitt and put two pumps on it from the St. Tropez Self Tanner. Then I apply it starting at my legs and working my way up. It works great throughout the night and then I rinse my body in the morning.

Pros: I personally really like it! There is no smell when it goes on and it’s really easy to pump onto the mit then spread all over. I haven’t had any problems with it streaking or looking uneven. The best thing is the sun kissed look that it gives you after it is rinsed off! Just like you have been to the beach for a full week:)

Cons: The only downside I have to it is the price. In comparison to a spray tan it is relatively cheap but I still cringe thinking about how much a full bottle costs when there are others that work just as well out there.

PS. Even if you don’t get this self tanner, you NEED the St. Tropez mit! It saves your hands from looking dirty and makes the application processes so much smoother!

Jergen’s Natural Glow ($8)

Not sure if you can qualify this as a ‘Self Tanner’ per say but that is what I am been using it for haha! The Jergen’s Natural Glow is pretty cheap and can be picked up from any drug store or grocery store.

How I apply: I have been buying the darkest color for many years (even though I am fair skin) and applying it over the course of 3 days. It creates this really pretty natural glow;) If your wanting a gradual tan to just brighten your skin this is great! It is not exactly an instant tan like the other self-tanners. I just apply it all over my body like a lotion.

Pros: The Jergen’s Natural Glow is completely affordable! It goes on really nicely and doesn’t leave streaks if you rub it in well enough. A little goes a long way too so it lasts a while. Also after applying it lasts up to a week! I have found that it doesn’t dry your skin out either because it technically is a “lotion”.

Cons: It unfortunately does smell:( Now this doesn’t bother me much haha. I am used to a very strong stray tan smell but I know it bothers others a lot. Another down side is it isn’t an instant tan and I have to remember to put it on 3 days in a row to get that full tan.

Overall: I will definitely continue to buy this throughout the summer! It is great for boosting your tan throughout. Now that I have found other instant self tanner’s I will just use this for an extra glow:)

St. Moriz Self Tanner ($12)

In my books, I saved the best for last! I applied this over the weekend and LOVED IT!!! The price is on point and doesn’t smell.

How I apply: I applied this just like I did with the St. Tropez! I used the mitt, 2 pumps at a time and started from the bottom and worked my way up. After I would apply, I would sleep in it and then rinse in the morning. I always try to keep a tanner on anywhere between 6-8 hours before rinsing off!

Pros: First off there is no smell🙂 Also it is only $12!! Is that a joke? This full bottle of self tanner is $12! Just take all my money. Personally, I would say it is almost exactly like the St. Tropez Self Tanner.  It just all around a great product!

Cons: If I had to find something wrong with it, I would say it does make your skin a little dry. But I also have to admit I have eczema so my skin is already very sensitive unfortunately! To counter that, I just apply regular lotion over the top after I have rinsed off.

Now you know the best self tanner I have been able to find is St. Moriz! I do love the other products though but they have more cons than the St. Moriz does. I did want to share a couple secrets I have for self tanners…

Self Tanner Secrets:

  • Apply lotion to make your tan last longer! Do this after you shower. Your skin naturally drys and falls off so to hold that tan skin, lotion your whole body up.
  • When apply self tanner to elbows and behind your ankles, make sure you bend your arms and legs! This will help to get into the wrinkles so you get a fuller tan.

Great guide! My skin is so pasty right now, I’ve completely lost my vacation tan and it’ll be months before I have enough natural tan. This post will totally help me bridge the gap!
